History

Introduction 

Model Town area , located amidst idyllic surroundings and pristine scenic beauty, was developed in Jalandhar in early 1950.That year might just be called the landmark year in the history of Model Town as Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha(Regd.) was then started in a small tin shed to offer divine peace to the residents of the locality. The Holy Guru Granth Sahib Ji was brought from some residence in the morning and taken back in the evening. Sikh National Model school was also started in 1952 in the Gurudwara Sahib premises. The building of Gurudwara Sahib was built by Shri Chanan Singh from Buta Mandi, S.Kundan Singh Sandhu, S. Bal Singh Bajaj, S. Mehtab Singh Sethi, S. Isher Singh, S. Hazara Singh, S. Tirath Singh Sodhi and S. Bhagel Singh with the co-operation of the ‘sadh-sangat’ .S. Jagjit Singh, S. Sohan Singh and Prof. Harbans Singh also joined to complete the building of Gurudwara Sahib. The main hall was completed in 1962.Then Giani Shadi Singh Ji was elected the President and S. Deva Singh Ji Sethi joined as Vice President. Early in 1970 S.  Sardara Singh Khosla ,S. Varyam Singh Bhasin and Bawa Balwant Singh also joined for the upliftment of Gurudwara’s building.After that S. Deva Singh Ji Sethi took over the charge of President, Gurudwara Sahib in 1978. S. Gurcharan Singh Gulati, Bawa Balwant Singh, S. Waryam Singh ,S. Jodh Singh  from All India Radio, S. Nirmal Singh Sethi and S. Kishan Singh Mann,Secretary looked after the day-to-day activities of Gurdwara Sahib and Sikh National Model school.

Guru Amar Dass Public School was started in  Gurdwara Campus in 1983 and the present building of the school was conceived ,founded and brought to its present glory in 1984 under the dynamic guidance of S. Deva Singh Ji  Sethi, Founder President of the school with he co-operation of his team, ’sadh-sangat’ of  Model Town and the residents of the near by colonies.
No doubt, the contemplated mission of the great visionary stand almost fully  achieved today. The school still continues with its sacred responsibility of guiding the students so that they can contribute  to the progress of the nation.
